99 Years Germania Broadcast

'July 24 2026' marks the 99th Anniversary of daddy William L. Klein's first broadcast of his radio show Germania Broadcast. He'd continue the production through the late 1960s.

Happy Birthday BBC!

It's the 100th anniversary of the British Broadcasting Corp. -- more widely known by its initials, BBC (link here). I first started listening to it during my years away from home -- i.e. in Paris, Rome and Berlin. The local broadcasting in any of those places wasn't in English so in the evening I'd switch over to the BBC via shortwave. By the time I made it home, it was broadcast here locally. It's something I listen to every evening! Happy B-day, BBC!

90th Anniversary of 1st Foreign Language Radio Show in Chicago/USA

 

Just a reminder: July 24 marks the 90th anniversary of the Germania Broadcast, one of the first foreign language radio shows in the U.S. Starting in 1927, it was produced in Chicago by my father William L. Klein. The program ran for more than 40 years and was an integral part of Chicago cultural life (particularly German-American, naturally). More info here: http://www.germaniabroadcast.net/
